Ducklings (3 Years - Until Their 5th Birthday)
Children will go into the water with our Swimming teacher, Parents will watch fro the poolside
Our Ducklings level swimming lessons run for 25 minutes and have a maximum of 6 children in a class to one teacher. All children start off working towards being safe and secure in and around water.
We have 5 different Duckling stages. We start the programme with introducing the children to water without parental support. We then move on to develop water confidence, while working on basic movements swimming and skills in the water. Gradually developing the freedom of movement with less support as they move through the 5 stages.
We use back floats that can be reduced one layer at a time to allow for a slow transition to non-aided movement. The teacher will guide the child through the different stages using toys and floats and fun based activities - engaging the child's imaginary play, while always promoting safety and confidence with in the water.
Turtles ( 5 Years Plus) (beginner To Stage 2)
Our Turtles classes run for 25 minutes and have a maximum of 6 children in a class to one teacher. These lessons are aimed at children aged 5 and above, or children who have completed all the Duckling criteria.
There are 3 stages with in our Turtles programme. The teachers start the program by making sure the child is comfortable in the water and building on their water confidence. The teacher then quickly adds in the basics of movement through the water developing this to achieve the goal of them swimming unaided and unsupported on both their front and back with a suitable level of technique.
Swimmers will also work on additional skills which will compliment their swimming skills, these include ball handling, diving and self rescue skills within the water.
Jellyfish (stage 3 - 5)
Our Jellyfish classes run for 25 minutes and have a maximum of 6 children in a class to one teacher. These lessons are aimed at children who have completed the Turtles level criteria.
There are 2 stages to our Jellyfish programme. The aim of the programme is to fine tune both the front crawl and back crawl swimming strokes working on areas like breathing and timing of the stroke.
This class will also introduce the breaststroke and butterfly swimming strokes ensuring that there are completed to a high standard over a small distance. Swimmers will also work on additional aquatic skills such as sculling, handstands and roly polys in preparation to introduce turns later on.
Dolphins (stage 6 Plus)
Our Dolphins classes run for 25 minutes and has a maximum of 8 children in a class to one teacher. There are 2 stages within our Dolphin level.
This class is aimed at children who have completed the Jellyfish criteria. The children are pushed to swim to the best of their ability, developing stamina and technique in all four of the competitive swimming strokes.
The class also starts to learn the laws that govern the sport of swimming and then applying them to each swimming stroke. The lessons begin to look at basic starts, turns and finishes for swimming races but also starts developing the skills used in other swimming disciplines such as water polo.
